What is a wireless speaker?
Wireless speakers are a type of loudspeaker that are able to receive a musical signal transmitted via radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic waves, eliminating the need for audio signal cables. Wireless formats used to carry the audio signal typically include one of the following: WiFi, Bluetooth, or proprietary formats.
In all cases, a low power transmitter is used to convert and broadcast a mono or stereo audio signal. The wireless speaker then decodes or demodulates the signal, amplifies it using an internal amplifier, and then drives the speakers in the housing.
Wireless speakers typically contain a rechargeable nickel-cadmium or lithium battery and may optionally allow direct powering as well. Bluetooth wireless speakers can connect to many devices with the Bluetooth feature such as TVs, smartphones, and some AV receivers.
