Audio crossovers are a type of filter used to control the range of audio frequencies directed to a given audio path or loudspeaker driver. They can be used to achieve better sound, reduce or prevent distortion, and create more sophisticated speaker or sound systems.

Audio crossovers can be implemented using electronic components (active filters, which required a power source), passive components (capacitors and inductors) working as direct speaker crossovers, digital software algorithms, and in some cases mechanical designs.
